Quick Answer

24 hour home care provides round the clock support for seniors who need in-home care and support throughout the day and night. Caregivers rotate through scheduled shifts to cover all 24 hours. At Dignified Choice Care, a registered nurse builds a care plan around your parent’s care needs and preferences.

24 Hour Home Care When the Nights Get Hard

24 hour home care means trained caregivers provide care for your parents around the clock, without leaving their own home. For many families in the Twin Cities, care needs often show up at night. Your dad gets up at 2AM and can’t find the bathroom, or your mom fell once on her way to the kitchen. Covering every hour leaves you managing daily responsibilities and overnight care.

Dignified Choice Care helps you care for your parents with a trained caregiver staying with them every hour. Daily and nighttime care no longer depends on whoever in your family is free. A registered nurse builds each care plan with your family, and a supervisor covers any shift a caregiver can’t make. Your parents receive all-day support, without having you responsible for every hour.

Tell Us Which Hours Have Become Harder to Cover

Whether it’s night care, early mornings, or weekend visits, we’ll talk through which hours need covering first.

How Does 24 Hour Home Care Work?

24 hour home care uses a team of caregivers taking scheduled shifts so care is always provided for your mom or dad. Together, we plan each shift length and the care team based on what your parents need and how they prefer their days to run. Every shift follows the same nurse-written care plan. The caregiver arriving at 3AM understands the same routines as the one assigned at 3PM.

When shifts change, caregivers pass along updates on how your mom ate, how she slept, or anything that seemed off. Overnight home care is part of each schedule, not an add-on. A caregiver is there for midnight bathroom trips, bed repositioning, or a restless night. You get each month’s schedule one to two weeks before it starts.

24 hour home care is not home health care. It does not replace short-term medical care a doctor orders or hospice care. Our caregivers help with daily life activities around the clock, while a registered nurse can provide healthcare-related visits for needs like wound care or feeding tubes.

How 24 Hour Care Helps You Through the Night

24 hour senior care puts a trained caregiver on the night shift, so nobody in your family has to be on call until morning. Here is what 24/7 in-home care changes for your parents and for you.

Support During Risky Moments: Falls can happen during midnight trips to the bathroom. A caregiver on shift can provide steady support for your dad, redirect wandering linked to dementia, and call for immediate help if something goes wrong.

Help in Evening and Morning Routines: Caregivers can help with your mom bathing, dressing, toileting, and getting ready for bed. Caregivers also follow the nurse’s medication setup on every shift.

Home Stays Home as Needs Grow: Moving out of a familiar home can be disorienting, especially for parents who have memory loss. Full time home care for seniors lets your parents stay at their own home throughout the care.

Recovery Happens in Familiar Rooms: After a hospital or rehab stay, a caregiver helps your dad with safe walking, resting, and the home exercises their therapist assigned. The first nights at home feel less uncertain when they have a caregiver staying with them at their house.

Lonely Evenings Get a Companion: Evenings can feel long and lonely, and Minnesota winters make getting out harder. A caregiver can share meals, engage with a conversation, and do small routines that make a day or night shorter.

Time for You to Sleep: Broken nights can wear you down fast. With trained caregivers handling chores, meals, and accompanied rides to doctor appointments, your visits can be more as family time instead of finishing care tasks.

Full time home care for seniors means steady support and fewer worries for your family at night. Your parents stay comfortable in their own space and you have more time for yourself.

In-Home Senior Care That Fits Your Parent’s Situation

We build each 24 hour care plan around your parent’s care needs and situation. Our home care services meet your family and your parent’s current situation.

After a Hospital or Rehab Stay

The first weeks home after surgery, a fall, or an illness are the times when your dad needs the most help. Our registered nurse reviews the discharge instructions and builds them into the care plan. Many families start with full care coverage, then we will discuss fewer hours as your dad gets stronger.

When Your Parent Wants to Keep Aging at Home

Some seniors may need more than a few hours of help, but have no interest in moving. 24 hour senior care at home lets your mom keep her own schedule, her own kitchen, and her voice in how the day goes. Caregivers provide support for her daily routines, instead of replacing it.

When Your Parent Is Living With Dementia or Alzheimer’s

24 hour dementia care at home brings support when care needs continue at night. Your dad may need help finding the bathroom or comfort when he wakes up at night confused. Before the first visit, caregivers are trained on your parent’s specific habits, cues, and calming moments. A nurse updates the care plan as needs change, so the approach follows your dad’s pace.

Near the End of Life, Alongside Hospice

When your parents want to stay home through the end of life, our caregivers work alongside their hospice team. The hospice team handles the medical side and comfort medications and our caregivers cover the hours in between. Your family can spend more time together instead of managing care.

No matter your situation, each care plan starts with a conversation about your parents and what their days and nights currently look like.

24 Hour Daily Care, Company, and Medication Support

Dignified Choice Care plans each 24 hour schedule to cover daily support, company, and medication reminders. Each plan can include more than one care service and may adjust as your parent’s needs do.

Companion Care: Caregivers provide engaging conversation, shared meals, and help your mom stay connected to friends and their favorite routines.

Personal Care: In-home help with bathing, dressing, toileting, and moving safely around the house. Each shift follows your parent’s privacy and support preferences.

Alzheimer’s Care: Trained caregivers provide familiar routines and approaches suited to your mom or dad. Individual training is provided to help caregivers understand how your mom communicates or how your dad accepts assistance.

Dementia Care: Support means addressing repeated questions, help with nightly confusion, wandering, and the daily tasks that become harder with memory loss.

End of Life Care: Our care team helps with comfort, personal care, and company while respecting your parent’s wishes. We work alongside your parent’s hospice team.

Medication Support & Management: A licensed nurse sets up medications and caregivers follow reminders and provide oversight on every shift.

What Shapes the Cost of 24 Hour Home Care?

24 hour home care costs more than other senior care services, as you are paying for every hour of the day. In Minnesota, the median rate for a non-medical caregiver was $44 an hour in 2025 (CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025). Each care plan is built and priced depending on several factors:

Full or Partial Coverage: 24/7 home care is billed every hour. Some families often start with overnight home care or long day shifts and add hours when care needs grow.

Shift Schedule: We plan shift lengths and each caregiver team according to your parent’s needs, and that sets your weekly hours. Every shift runs at least four hours.

Skilled Nursing or Care Needs: Medication setups by a nurse are billed at the standard hourly rate. Skilled care needs like wound care or feeding tubes have their own fee, and we tell you the cost up front.

One Rate for Routine Care: Dignified Choice Care charges one flat hourly rate with no add-on fees for routine in-home care tasks, plus a one-time setup fee.

How Long Care Lasts: A few weeks of coverage after a hospital stay costs far less than ongoing in-home care for seniors living with dementia or at the end of life.

Schedule arrangements: Overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts are discussed as part of your family’s preferred schedule. We explain how the agreed hourly rate applies during the initial discussion.

We accept private pay and long-term care insurance, depending on the coverage. Medicare or Medicaid is not accepted to cover in-home care services.

A Nurse-Built Care Plan and Real Backup for Shifts

At Dignified Choice Care, each 24 hour care plan is written by a registered nurse. Our RN meets your parents and your family in your home, then writes a plan that covers daily and nighttime care schedules. As your mom’s or dad’s needs change, the care plan is also updated. Your mom’s overnight caregiver and her morning caregiver work from the same page.

Every 24 hour care shift has a backup. When a caregiver can’t make it, a supervisor or client coordinator steps into the field and covers the shift. From January to August 2026, we missed 6 out of 8,516 shifts served across all our clients. Our goal is simple: no late-night call telling you nobody is coming.

Round-the-clock care means familiar caregivers visit your parent’s home. We don’t let any of our care team arrive as strangers. A nurse or trainer comes to each new caregiver’s first visit and introduces them to your mom or dad in person. By the time a new face starts a night shift, your mom has already met them before, accompanied by a care team she knows in the room.

24 Hour Home Care FAQs

How Do I Estimate the Weekly Cost of Continuous Care?

A full week of round-the-clock care includes 168 hours, so request an estimate based on the agreed hourly rate. Ask for the one-time setup fee and any applicable nursing charges that are applied separately to each plan. Dignified Choice Care discusses your parent’s situation during the consultation before we provide a care cost range.

What Happens at a Shift Change During 24 Hour Home Care?

At each shift change, the outgoing and incoming caregivers do a care handoff so safe support continues throughout the day. The incoming and outgoing caregivers discuss and pass down vital information about the client’s day, how mealtime went, and any changes in care needs.

How Many Caregivers Will My Dad Have?

24 hour senior care takes more than one caregiver. The exact number of the care team assigned to your dad depends on the shift schedule we build with your family. Every caregiver on the team works from the same care plan, so your dad gets the same routine no matter who is on shift.

Can We Use 24 Hour Care for Just a Few Weeks?

Yes. Many families use 24 hour home care for the first few weeks after a hospital or rehab stay. Then they can scale back to overnight or daytime shifts as their mom or dad recovers. The registered nurse adjusts each care plan throughout each step. Our Transition Home / Post-Rehabilitation Support service is built for those weeks.

Will the Caregiver Stay Awake Overnight?

Yes. With 24 hour home care, each overnight caregiver is on a working shift. They are awake and provide support for bathroom trips, bed repositioning, medications on the set schedule, or when your parents have a restless night. If nights start getting harder, the caregiver notes it for the nurse, who can adjust the care plan.
